Murrumbidgee Irrigation Specific Spotters Course (Non-accredited)

This course applies to all workers who are performing works that require a safety observer to be appointed for other work activities where the onsite Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control process identifies the need for a safety observer.

A worker is defined as any person who carries out work for Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) such as employees, trainees, volunteers, apprentices, work experience students, contractor or sub-contractors, employees of a contractors or sub-contractors, employees of a labor hire company assigned to work for MI.

It is essential to note that a safety observer performs an exclusively dedicated duty that is purposely assigned to ensure the safety of worker in carrying out works.

The Safety Observer must NOT PERFORM any other work task while acting as a safety observer. The safety observer must temporarily suspend works of the plant item where required to assist the work team, to prevent unauthorised access to the worksite, significantly change position or for any other event that may distract their ability to carry out the role of a safety observer.

Course Entry Requirements for MI Overhead Spotters Course

To enroll participants must comply with MI site policies regarding dress and safety when the course is conducted off-site. Participants should bring a pen or pencil.

Course Duration and Delivery

  • Duration: 3 hours (flexible start and finish times)
  • Location: Courses are typically conducted at Murrumbidgee Irrigation Head Office in Hanwood however given enough participants the course can be offered at your location.
  • Delivery: Participants will engage in both theory and practical activities. Face-to-face training is led by our qualified and experienced trainers.

Recognition of Prior Learning and Pathways

Due to the short nature of this Overhead Spotters course RPL is not offered
