Chlorine Gas Training Course Overview
NWPTRT007 – Monitor and operate liquefied chlorine gas disinfection processes provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely monitor, operate and maintain liquefied chlorine gas disinfection processes. Designed for personnel working with chlorine gas systems in water and wastewater treatment environments, the course combines essential safety knowledge with practical training in chlorine gas handling, system monitoring, container changeover and emergency response procedures.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Understanding the properties, hazards and risks associated with liquefied chlorine gas
- Safe operation and monitoring of chlorine gas disinfection systems
- Safe handling, storage and movement of chlorine gas containers
- Preparation for chlorine gas container connection and disconnection
- Safe connection and disconnection of liquefied chlorine gas containers
- Monitoring chlorine dosage, feed rates and disinfection processes
- Sampling, testing and interpreting chlorine residual levels
- Identification of system faults, leaks and abnormal operating conditions
- Selection and use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Application of workplace procedures, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and relevant safety requirements
- Emergency response procedures for chlorine gas incidents
- Recording and reporting operational information

Course Entry Requirements
Participants must:
- Hold the prerequisite unit MSMWHS216 – Operate breathing apparatus
- Be able to safely participate in the practical components of the course
- Bring appropriate workplace clothing and safety footwear
Course Duration and Delivery
- Duration: Contact Thurgoona Training Academy for course duration and scheduling
- Location: Delivered at the Academy or onsite by arrangement
- Amenities: Morning/afternoon tea, coffee, and lunch are provided for courses at TTA.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Pathways
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be available to eligible participants with relevant existing skills and industry experience.
- This course aligns with the NWP Water Training Package.
